In NSS EDS software, the kernel size can be manually set from 1 x 1 to 19 x 19. It is very common that 3 x 3 and 5 x 5 kernels are used. These affect the accuracy of the quantitative results, that is, the larger the size, the less detail that occurs in the map resolution but in a shorter calculation time. When the kernel size is set to Auto, the software makes sure that there is ample data for the quantitative analysis by automatically setting the kernel size based on the total number of counts within the kernel. The detail (speed) setting can be selected from the Quant Map Detail drop-down list box (Table 1373).
