Astigmatism is a non-azimuthally-symmetric lens aberration. It can be described by adding an azimuth dependent term to the phase shift function. This term is given by, [page4236]

The anisotropy of the astigmatism has the effect of averaging-out the higher frequency extrema in the radially averaged Fourier spectrum and thus depresses the high-frequency radial Fourier spectrum.
