| LaB6 filaments offer a high current, but the brightness is by three orders of magnitude lower than that of FEGs. Whereas the high current is well suited for energy-filtering TEM (EFTEM), the low brightness leads to impractically small currents if a small electron probe of nanometer size is formed.
