Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) was introduced by Intel in 1992. The PCI bus came in both 32-bit (133 MBps) and 64-bit versions and was used to attach hardware to a computer. Figure 1277a shows a couple of examples of PCI Firewire based cards together with USB ports. The price of such cards in 2017 are from $ 10 to $ 30 USD per card.

PCI Firewire based card has been used in PCs for EM (electron microscope). For instance, Gatan DigiScan unit (e.g. shown in Figure 1277b) includes analogue inputs for sampling different signals. Up to 4 inputs can be optionally installed for simultaneous acquisition of signals. DigiScan employs Firewire communication technology which includes a 400 PCI Firewire based computer card.
